Before getting started online you need to identify your
niche market. Niche markets are small
distinguishable areas of the market that will be the most
profitable for you and your industry.

The secret to identifying your niche market is to find a
small but profitable area of the market. On the internet you'll
find that having a strong profitable niche works to your
advantage because it is highly focused and targeted to specific
needs of your viewer.
For example, if your interest is gambling,
you would be wise to drill down to selling something like poker
chips or perhaps drill down even further and sell customized
poker chips.
Building a huge generic site can bring
in lots of visitors but you won't get many sales because
you can't possibly know specifically what each visitor is
looking for. Developing a site that targets only those
people looking for a specific thing, like poker chips or
personalized poker chips, will yield only people interested in
that niche, which increases your chances of making a sale
substantially.
So how do you identify your niche market or more
specifically, a profitable niche market?
By doing your niche marketing research.
So, let's start by looking at
the top 5 top things people come to the internet
for. They are love, money,
health, beauty and entertainment.
Now within those 5 categories what areas would peak your
interest? I have an interest in beauty and I've noticed that
one of the latest hot beauty topic is sedu hair
styles.
OK, now that I've found a topic of interest, there
are 3 things I'll need to examine:
- Demand
- Competition
- Monetization
Demand - Here's where I have to ask
myself if there enough interest in this area? If I go to
Wordtracker and look up "sedu
hair styles", that term gets 1928 searches a day. Hmmm
...I think that is a pretty good niche, don't you?
Competition - The next thing you want to
consider is the competition. Competition is a good
thing so don't let it discourage you. Go to www.google.com and type in "sedu
hair". If you look down the right hand column of the page
you will see the paid ads for sedu hair. This tells me
that there are people obviously making money on this topic so
you're chances are pretty good that this is a topic than can
make you money.
Monetization - This is where we will look
at how to make money with this idea. Start with
creating a website around the topic. If affiliate
marketing is your interest, you'll need to research products
that have affiliate programs that you can join and promote.
Again, if you go to www.google.com, type into the search box
'sedu hair affiliate'. You can see that there are a few
affiliate programs you can join.
Also get creative and think about other products that would
complement hair styles that you can also promote.
Write as many articles as you can and place them on your
site. Provide content that users would be interested in.
Also I recommend adding Adsense ads to your site. This is
an excellent way of getting some start up
income.
