Do most people use a pen name for their online marketing persona?
Hi Michelle,
It’s encouraged to use your own name when it comes to your internet business, however what is commonly done is folks use a subset of their real name, for example if your name is Shelly Connolly, you might go by Shelly Conn, or if your name is Ann Courtney Smith, you might go by Ann Courtney.
As long as you are not using false or misleading information to induce the consumer to buy you’ll be ok.
However if someone is paying you and writing you checks they need to pay you in the name you do business as. If you are getting paid for services rendered and you want to be paid in your ‘alias’ name you must file the proper documentation, such as filing a “doing business as” statement.
I would like to know where to start when you know nothing about websites/clickbank/opt-ins/writing copy etc. A sort of “training wheels” for interested interrnet businesses. Something I could do step-by-step in a couple of hours to see if I really AM interested in continuing without ploughing through all the hype and jargon. It wouldn’t matter if it only made a few dollars, just to get the experience. Plus an “idiots guide to affiliate marketing’ that is short, simple and step-by-step to just get a taster. I hope you can help. Warm Regards.
Hi, Ms. Liz,
I’ve enjoyed your your marketing tips and have learned a lot. I’m still in the learning stage, but I’m hoping to make some positive movement here soon. I’m curious about the legal aspects of internet partnerships. I’m leaning toward an LLP, but I wonder when it becomes imperative to nail things down on paper. Do I need a lawyer?
Thanks,
Susan
I think most people want to make money on the net. I have tried by designing a website on health related issues. I was with 1and1.com and could not get the website published.
I have recently joined hostgator and will give it another go.
What I need is a good website building tool that does not cost an arm and a leg? Any suggestions
Jaques, I have a few of my own personal favorite website builders but I also think setting up a blog is a good idea, especially in light of the social marketing aspects of the web. A blog can be set up as a blog but you can also use it to set up a static website and Wordpress.org is perfect for that. I explain that a little more in detail here: http://www.homenotion.com/blogging.html
Also Wordpress.org is free.
Susan, when you apply for your business license you’ll declare the type of business you are, LLP, Sole proprietorship, ‘C’ corp, etc. Whether or not you seek advice from a lawyer is up to you, it’s not a bad idea to at least consult one. However, there is tons of information out there that is helpful, here’s where I recommend you start looking http://www.business.gov/
Maureen, ahh …you hit the nail on the head! Finding good step-by-step good information for those things is hard to come by. There are litereallly tons of guides that touch on each topic, and that in itself makes it hard and confusing to know where to look to find reliable information.
I will be addressing these issues and offering some advice in upcoming newsletters so please stay tuned and thanks for your great input!
It’s been over a year that I started looking for something to do with an online business. Since that time I’ve read and looked at far to much stuff about “having your own business”, that I just stop reading everything that came to my inbox. Other than the fear of failure, I learn better by seeing others doing something rather than reading a much of material on “How to have your own busniess in 24 hours or less!”. I’ve been deleting everything that comes my way that smacks at internet business. Today I looked at yours, for some reason, you wanted to know what I was thinking. There it is, plain and sample. Thanks for asking. Larry
Larry, I couldn’t have said it better myself! Get off those email lists! there’s no bigger distraction than getting all those ‘make money offers’, product promotions and the like. They completely soak up your time and energy. None of us has that much time to waste.
Also, don’t let the fear of failure discourage you, that’s how we learn. Sure, you’ll make mistakes …so what, learn from them and get back in there.
However, you also make a great point …learn from others! That’s the beauty of the web, we can do that. It’s not hard to see what people are doing, how they do it and learn from it. All very good points, thanks!
Ms. Liz,
First, I love the information you offer ma’am. Thank You!
I am not looking to be a millionaire, all I need is to replace a $600/mo. income that did not get renewed in 2009. If I was able to generate $900/mo., I could leave my night job to be with my family through the week. That would be nice.
What business should I focus on to generate such an income?
I know I have the drive to succeed at it, I just need “know-how” in the “step-by-step” version.
Once again, THANK YOU!
Very simple: I want to know how to deliver my products to customer. The product is sourced from Asia and the buyer market is in Europe. I’m just lost in this starting phase.
Thanks for your tips, they are simply wonderful. I’m a student who will graduate in the next 5 months. I want to be working from my home when i graduate and at the same time make enough money to live big. I don’t have any site yet, but i have a good idea about a book. I want to know how i can transfer it from my office word document to an e-book and how i can market it on the net. Do you think i can make good money writing e-books?
First thank you for the e-mails very informative. My computer skills are next to nothing. My question is how do you form, copy,or install U.R.L.’s to a web site, and where do you place them.I have some affilate sites that want to link. I have microsoft windowsxp 7.I can’t drag and drop for some reason like i could with version 2003.
(thanks) for your care. how do i find a good niche? I want to write and market ebooks. How do i convert what i have written in msword to ebook format and how do i design the cover?
Jerry,
I’m not sure if this is what you are referring to but I’ll take a stab at it. If you want to link to an affiliate site simply highlight the affiliate link, do a right click and select copy, then go over to your website and place your cursor where you want the link to go, then right click again and select paste. The link should appear.
Hi Johnson,
Writing an ebook is an excellent business and yes, you can make very good money at it. There are several free products that will convert your word doc to a pdf for free but I like http://www.pdf995.com/ . There are plenty of ways to market you ebook, however one of the ways I suggest is to do a litttle reserach on the net for websites that are related to your product, then send an email to the webmaster asking them if they would review your product and put out a good word for you to their email lists or in their newsletter. You could even strike up a deal that for every person on their list that buys you will share the profits with them. There are a number of things you could do but you want to make it worth their while.
