The Wrong Way to Make Money Online

by Ms. Liz on February 5, 2009

Many people look to the internet for ways to make money online and there are plenty of legitimate opportunities out there, however jumping into just any opportunity because it may look easy or hold the promise of instant riches doesn’t mean it will be profitable.

In other words, there are plenty of wrong ways to make money online.

For example:

   • Not researching and making a business plan
   • Not focusing on a niche
   • Not identifying who your customer is
   • Not targeting your customer effectively
   • Not focusing on customer experience
   • Not having money to get started

Because there are so many online opportunities available it's easy for people to make the wrong decisions, especially if they are just starting out, inexperienced or even desperate to make some money.

Folks can be so anxious to begin making money that they are lured in by the hype of making instant riches. They want an easy quick way to begin making money but give up quickly because they get scammed or settle on an opportunity that was misleading or required more experience.

This may sound familiar but stay with me, there's a solution.

By identifying potential pitfalls now and understanding how to find the right opportunities you can avoid potential problems down the line and become profitable much sooner:

1. Take the time to thoroughly research opportunities you’re interested in so you can determine what the costs, risks and benefits will be.

2. While you don’t necessarily have to pick just one niche, you DO need to identify what areas you are going to target. If you’re going to make money blogging for instance, determining a niche is essential so that you can create a brand and be found online. Miscellaneous blogs are typically not very profitable.

3. Think about who you're going to be marketing to. Who will your audience be? This will also help you write more effective sales copy because you'll understand what your audience really needs and wants and you'll be in a much better position to find the right products and/or services to promote.

4. If you can find ways to make it easy for your clients to do business with you, you’ll not only attract customers but you’ll attract repeat customers.

If you're just another internet marketer that hastily jumps on the make money online bandwagon, you'll soon discover that finding information and reliable resources can be confusing. The good news is that the area of earning potential is not oversaturated.  There's still room for anyone who applies themselves to find a profitable niche and maximize your earning potential.

So if you’ve already started and made some mistakes along the way, the good news is that it’s never too late to gain new focus and passion for what you are doing.

A trusted, quality internet marketing course is always a good start, however if you feel you're beyond that stage, don't drop the ball and exclude continuous education. This is what will help you evolve in your entrepreneurial journey, stay ahead of the competition and increase your income at a steady rate.

Hi Ms Liz,

Very excellent points you made. I love how you share that there’s always room for mistakes but yet, there’s still so much room for people to make money online.

I come across people who say that the make money online niche is saturated and it’s funny how untrue that is… it’s like saying selling televisions is saturated but people are still making money with selling televisions, no?

As entrepreneurs, there’s always room to improve =)
