How Will You Learn Affiliate Marketing?

by Ms. Liz on February 13, 2010

learn affiliate marketingWhen you're just starting out trying to make money online, specifically in affiliate marketing don’t tackle it without first learning the best strategies that will make you the most money.

One thing for sure is that your success as an affiliate marketer will be who you learn affiliate marketing from and whether or not you put into practice what you have learned.

There are several key concepts and strategies that make affiliate marketing work and those are the things that you'll  want to invest time learning, these are the core concepts that will help you start making money and grow your income into something that will sustain you for many years to come.

First off, achieving super affiliate status won’t happen overnight, it’s not a get rich quick scheme, and if someone is telling you that it’s an easy way to earn money with little to no effort, click out of their page and find someone that won't insult your intelligence.

Secondly, you want to make sure that whoever you choose to listen to isn’t just interested in teaching you simply paid traffic techniques. Often people recommending those tactics receive a commission on paid advertising tools and sites they recommend to you, so their intentions aren’t at all in your best interest.

There should be a healthy balance that shows you how to promote products using free traffic methods, paid methods and social networking.

Lastly, your training needs to help you learn how to choose a niche and products or services that will convert easily and not cause you to struggle making sales. My best advice to you is to simply “follow your passion”, however successful affiliates know that you also need to have a certain amount of traffic volume combined with people who are ready and willing to spend money for the solution you’re promoting.

OK, that’s great advice but who in the industry should you be listening to and what information do you need?

Learn from people who are actually making money practicing affiliate marketing. When you find someone you trust and feel comfortable learning from, take their advice and put it into practice.  If you’re just going to read an ebook or take a course and then leave it on your hard drive to take up space, it’s a waste of your time and money. Make a commitment to learn and do.

The person that has given me the help and training I needed to learn affiliate marketing is Rosalind Gardner.  If anyone can lay claim to being a super affiliate, Rosalind can, and if you choose to read her super affiliate handbook and put into practice her recommendations and guidance, you’ll be more than on your way to super affiliate status ;-)

I’ve only just started to get into affiliate marketing (no success yet although I’m seeing some income from adsense). I think the biggest thing I’ve had to hammer through my head is don’t worry about optimizing for sales until you are actually getting traffic. Sounds obvious, but I have actually wasted time getting products to display just right when no-one was even seeing them!

Thanks for the link to the handbook, I just downloaded it and read it. It has way more useful information than The Rich Jerk program, and this is just a handbook! Good post!

Liz, very good article. You are right. Affiliate marketing is not as easy as some people pretend that it is. Getting the proper training is critical.

I purchased Rosalind Gardner’s Super Affiliate’s Handbook, based on your recommendation. It is excellent. It has tons of detailed training and is worth every cent.

Acquiring a new customer is not that easy. I feel that it is best to focus on providing several quality products to an individual customer – products that can be very helpful to that person.

I’m not suggesting that an affiliate marketer should try to sell these products at one time. Instead, the marketer can offer these products to the customer over time. This maximizes your profitability for that customer.

Thanks for the article.

Hi Liz:

I just started reading your website. It has lots of good information. I have been trying to read up on Affiliate Marketing but there is so much information out there, I’m not sure what’s right or wrong. Can someone REALLY make a living with Affiliate Marketing? Some websites say that it’s not possible to do so. Thanks for any additional comments.

Hi Debbie, yes you can make a living with affiliate marketing or any other legitimate online business but the truth is, this is a business and just as you would make money at any other business you have to plan, learn the strategies and work at it each day. I don’t make my total living at affiliate marketing I combine it with other online business ideas but it doesn’t matter what it is that you’re doing, as long as you treat it as a business you’ll make money.
