Why starting a blog for free isn’t always a good idea
When you create a blog at blogger.com or any free blogging service, they host your blog and create a domain name for you.
That’s fine if your blog isn’t something that you’ll be taking too seriously. But if you’re trying to be professional and want to be in control of your blog, you’ll want to host it yourself and be able to choose your own domain name.
For example which would you prefer, a domain name like:
mybusiness.blogger.com or mybusiness.com?
Your own blog is always better on your own space. It’s giving it it’s own home, otherwise it’s like having a landlord that restricts your every move. No thank you!
Let me break this down for you
To host your own blog on average is about $4-7 a month and a domain name purchase is about $10. The actual blogging software that you create your blog with is free. I personally prefer the WordPress.org blogging software and is what I’ve created this blog with and they have hundreds of themes to choose from that are easy to customize as well.
That’s it! Purchase your domain name for $10, your first month of hosting is free and the blogging software is free.
Creating your own self-hosted blog on WordPress isn’t totally free, but it’s darn close, but you’ll have a quality blog that gives you unlimited flexibility and professionalism.
If you’re still not ready to hand over even $10, blogger.com is the best solution if you’re still focused on how to start a blog for free, but if you’re blogging venture is expected to be long term with a possible option of making some cash with it down the line, I’d recommend creating your own self hosted blog using WordPress.org.
