So often people will stress and agonize over Google ranking factors and it’s so not necessary.
First of all, Google has over 200 ranking factors to consider, and they change all the time. I don’t know about you but that’s way more work than I want to take on.
If Search engine Optimization has you concerned, Axandra, a favorite SEO software company of mine, offers an easier solution to cracking the Google algorithm code for positively influencing the position of your web pages.
For me, along with good keyword research, these are actually the only ranking factors I pay attention to and so far, they’ve given me some pretty good results.
An insight into Google’s 200 ranking factors

Last week, Google’s Eric Schmidt said that listing Google’s 200 ranking factors would reveal business secrets. Although Google does not officially publish their ranking algorithms, there is something that you can do to crack Google’s secret algorithm.
Google’s 200 ranking factors
Google uses about 200 ranking factors to determine the position of a web page in the search results. Unfortunately, Google does not reveal the list of ranking factors and how exactly they are weighted. Google’s ranking formula is a business secret.
The problem is that your web pages must have all of these 200 elements if you want to see your pages on Google’s first result page.Which factors are important to Google? In the past, Google revealed some factors that influence the position of a web page in Google’s search results:
* the presence of a search term in the HTML title tag
* the presence of a search term in the HTML body copy
* search terms in bold typeface
* search terms in header tags
* the presence of a search term in anchor text in links to a page
* the PageRank of a page (the actual PageRank, not the toolbar PageRank)
* the PageRank of the entire domain
* the speed of the web site
These eight factors are only some of the 200 factors that Google uses to rank a website. It does not make sense to add your search terms to every element on your website. It’s also important that the frequency of the search term in the web page elements is correct. If a search term appears in every possible element on a page, it is likely that Google will penalize the page because it is over-optimized.
How to crack Google’s secret ranking algorithm
The web pages that are listed on Google’s first result page for your search terms obviously have all the ranking elements that are needed to get a top 10 position on Google for that search term.
If you want to be listed for the same search term, it makes sense to analyze the top ranked pages. In which page elements do they use the search term? How many links do the top ranked pages have? How many of these links contain the search term? How often should you use the search term in the different web page elements and the links?
Analyzing the top 10 pages will help you to greatly improve the rankings of your own web pages for your search terms.

Hey Liz,
More people would love to know what it takes to crack this code. And if it’s something easy to follow along, even more people will do it.
Thanks for sharing this and making things easier.

Hey Liz – great content and value – i think a lot of people get too bent out of shape chasing the magic seo formula and forget the reason they are online – remember when blogs were frowned on as poor second cousins to websites – most syndicated blogs are killing traditional and complex websites on Alexa ranking and interactivity – with a fraction of the effort
thanks for sharing

Hey Liz,
Thanks for the tips and the free ebook download.
I agree, “reverse engineer” the top search results for the terms you’re after can go a long way to improving your search rankings.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Liz, SEO is an ongoing mission! But, yes..I can concur with you when you say take a look at what others are doing to get highly ranked – I do this often & it helps me to get more focused on the particular thing I am working on.
There are so many things that one can & should be doing to optimise for SEO but if we spent all our time on that we wouldn’t have any time to do the other busines-building stuff!
Stay inspired!

Hi Liz
yes I think we can get too hyped up about optimising all the ranking tricks. Of course they need to be taken into consideration. But I really believe there is a strong ‘energetic element’ at work too. It is all about attracting people, networking (these tribes), having people recommend your site because it has great content.
We can get caught up too much in trying to crack it all on a technical level. Certainly my Alexa ranking has come way down since commenting on these tribes. But more than just that, I am meeting wonderful people and I know that through this I will attract the right people to me who will want to join me in my business and they will ask me. I will never pitch.
But thank you also for the ebook
I am sure it will help too.

Hi Liz,
That manual is sure to help ANYONE in Internet Marketing, thanks a lot for the link
Would you agree backlinks are the most important factor, and that a large chunk of your efforts to promote the site should be on getting as many high quality, natural and relevant links as possible?
Once again cheers for the Manual
Hey Simon, yep, it’s a good one!

I use SBI and I think I cover most of these factors when I pass analyze it, because it forces you to
the presence of a search term in the HTML title tag
* the presence of a search term in the HTML body copy
* search terms in bold typeface
* search terms in header tags
* the presence of a search term in anchor text in links to a page
So feel I am doing a I can do. I have been at this for 21 months it is not easy, but I know it works.
200 is really a lot! Makes me wonder what those other factors are. But, the ones mentioned here are I also think the most important. Some don’t believe in SEO, but it’s really important. They sure are missing on a lot if they don’t want seo.

hi liz,
have you came across any information about change in google algorythm last week (2/24/11)?
Thanks.
You can read about it here:
http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/110225-125210
Imagine 200 ranking factors to determine the position of a web page in search results and sad enough the formula is a secret but if the secret came out to the open things won’t be the same anymore with Google and its users.
