It can be a challenge finding an online web site builder. The choices are overwhelming and the prices can range from just a few dollars to several hundreds of dollars.
If you’re a small home business owner, you’re probably not going to be doing a lot of techie programming or fancy flash graphics, but you’ll definitely want an online web site builder that is easy to use, offers flexibility, creates professional looking websites and comes equipped with popular graphics tools and money making features.
Here’s a checklist of things to help you find easy website builders that make creating a professional website fast and profitable.
- Look for a web site builder that has an easy to use interface that’s not confusing.
- A site builder needs to have scalability so that as you can add content and your performance won’t be compromised.
- You’ll need to be able to import your own images easily. I also like site builders that include graphics with the product. Things like buy now buttons, color banners, arrows, payment logos, etc. This saves you from having to find graphics on your own and worrying about copyright infringement.
- A web site builder should include a user’s guide and videos. For example, in plain English it should show you ‘how to create your web pages’. Tutorials will ensure you get your navigation right.
- Look for a product that also has a user forum. Product forums are usually monitored by the product experts so you can expect to get efficient, almost immediate response to questions or any problems I’ve had.
- Your site builder should help direct you with website design best practices, provide well designed website templates and easy navigation controls. These are what help you create web sites that look professional, not amateurish. I’m certainly not a designer so I need all the help I can get
- A good online web site builder will have search engine optimization analysis so all your web pages have a competitive chance for ranking well in the search engines.
- If you’ll be creating an e-commerce web site, you’ll need a product that supports scripting capabilities and has some built-in e-commerce solutions so that your products will display nicely and checkout will be smooth for your visitors.
You’ll also want easy web site design capabilities that feature things like inventory management, shopping cart, shipping options, order management and payment processing features.
- At the very least an online web site builder should include basic features like spell checker and allow you to include things like a site search form, redirect pages, social networking links, pop-ups, RSS feeds, site maps and a links manager just to name a few.

It is becoming increasingly easier to get a professional looking website up & running very quickly these days.
I think many internet marketers are foregoing the more traditional website for self-hosted wordpress blogs for a number of reasons, least of all the ease to build them, the flexibility they offer, their ability to rank well due to changing content & much more.
Michael, I agree that blogs are really popular but I still have a few traditional websites out there. I do love Wordpress but it can be quirky sometimes.

Thanks for sharing great website building resources, Liz. Yes, it has become a lot easier to build a website from scratch these days, but I still prefer my wordpress blog!
All the best,

Nowadays you don’t need to be an HTML expert to design a website because there are many WYSIWYG editors available online. You just have to go through the tutorials and design what you want.
Yes WYSIWYG makes design easier so we can be thankful for that, but you still have to design your site, that’s a key issue. So following website design best practices helps a lot. Logical navigation and useful information is what you want to serve your visitors as well as the search engines.
I agree with you. great idea! Thanks for posting. If you get the chance feel free to visit me back on my site.
Hi James, you have a great niche there, there’s so much that can be done marketing locally.
I have been just analyzing your post it’s very well crafted, I’m exploring on the internet looking for exactly how to begin this weblog thing and your site definitely is quite impressive.
