Experience Mapping By Karen Newman

by Ms. Liz on August 30, 2010

Have you ever heard of experience mapping? It's not a term I was familiar with until I met Karen Newman.  Karen is the author and creator of the exciting book called just that, 'Experience Mapping'.

This is a term coined by Karen that covers everything you need to know on how to stop working for someone else and start living the life of your dreams.

That's what Karen has done herself and that's what her book 'Experience Mapping' shows you how to do.

Karen is one of those people you can't help but be impressed with.  Her career in television and broadcasting allowed her to work for organizations like FOX Sports, Entertainment Tonight and American Broadcasters and she's covered impressive events like the Olympics and Goodwill games in Russia.

But Karen gave up her successful career to be a stay at home mom with her 2 boys. It was a courageous decision but Karen's career path simply wasn't in line with her personal goals, she was motivated, in a big way, to make a change.

How many of us face the same challenge?

I actually met Karen while hanging out at one of my daily social marketing sites. She's someone I truly admire because she's an example of the person I love to write about, she's created her own success story and I love that!  But it's a success story rooted in having a strong mindset and using your past to help direct your future.

What Karen helps us recognize is that all of us have talents, accomplishments and experiences, but many of us never actually realize and truly recognize these things as a pathway to creating our own successful independence.

Karen uses the baby boomer generation as her primary example but this concept applies to anyone.  No matter who you are, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant you may think your talents or accomplishments are, everyone possesses them. But not only do you have them, you need to recognize them because they are the very things that will help you break out of the binds you live in.

Karen takes you through her own personal journey for how she started making money online and she outlines the steps for how she achieved her internet success.  You'll almost immediately find yourself thinking about what it is you really love doing and what you ultimately want for yourself.

Did you know that most people don't actually know what that is?  In fact, if you've been working for someone else most of your life, you're probably fooling yourself.  To quote Karen:

"It is easy to lose sight of a personal passion when you are caught up in the pressures and daily grind of corporate life. Especially for executives, it is not uncommon to be wearing "blinders" that prevent you from seeing a true picture of the world around you and your role in it."

I know for myself that was true.  I was raised with the idea that you go to college, get a degree, find a job and then work hard hoping to excel enough financially so you can retire comfortably.  The deception is that working hard for someone else has tremendous limitations.  It's not until you can break those chains and achieve financial independence that you can truly live the lifestyle you so long for.

If you can put into practice Karen's three-step approach to decision making and use her Experience Mapping™ to build your future success from your talents and past experiences, you can break the binds of traditional employment and maximize your own success.

Karen's has an easy to read writing style. I love her no non-sense approach. Her Experience Mapping technique is for anyone who wants to make the change from working for someone else to living the lifestyle most people only dream about.

Hi Liz,

I agree with Peter that this is a great review. I also put it on my must-read list. Thanks for sharing. The mindset of working for someone else is a deep-rooted one that can be changed, definitely.

Take care

Hey Liz.. Yes I agree that working for someone else has tremendous limitations.. the only way you can make more money is by getting a raise or getting promoted – and what’s the likelihood of that happening every 6 months or every year for that matter..

This mindset can be changed..

thanks for sharing

Hey Liz,

Thank you for sharing some great insights on Karen’s work. I will get a copy of this book too. I too was raised to be part of the machine and I count myself as lucky to have a mind opened enough to realise it with the help of some visionaries. But unfortunately so many people don’t, or need that extra nudge to help them see that there is a better way. I’m glad there are crusaders like yourself and Karen who do this.

Thanks,
Wayne

Thanks for this review Liz.

I’ll have to check the book out. It sounds great!

I’ve read several of Karen’s posts, here and there, but wasn’t aware of the book.

Thank you!

Susanna

Wayne, I also think that folks are afraid to start an internet home business or any business for that matter. It can be a tough decision to make but as for you, visionaries and supporters can make all the difference.

Hello Liz,

Wow those are some pretty impressive credentials she has done a lot things already that most people will never achieve. Then on top of write a book with her own success blueprint yes the kind of person you should listen to.

I have a list of books I am reading right now for different reasons but down the line I definitely want to pick up a copy. Great review by the way.
