Declaring Your Own Independence Online

independence onlineHappy 4th of July!  It’s independence day here in the U.S. and what a celebration it is.

But let me ask you something?  Have your declared you own independence?

I mean your independence Online?  Exercising your freedom to create your own online business?

Is that a dream of yours? If it is, have you gotten started yet?

It takes courage to set out on your own and establish financial freedom. It’s a lot easier to depend on someone else to hand you a paycheck every month, but there can be a heavy price to pay when it comes to job satisfaction fulfillment and income potential. That’s exactly how it was for me.

With the year half over and this awesome day of freedom we’re celebrating, I’m asking you to think about what it might take for you to find your own independence with an online business.

It may sound like an impossible task but honestly I think you can do it.

I’m saying that because I’ve done it and if I can do it, so can you.

I didn’t know what I was doing when I started. I didn’t know how to create a blog, make sales or even write very well. The only skills I had were those I got working for someone else. But I could learn and follow directions; and folks, it’s really not any harder than that.

If you’re feeling encouraged and I hope you are, here’s what to do next.

How You can Declare Your Independence Online with An Online Business

Make the Commitment

Everything starts with being committed.  This is not about deciding to try something or having an interest, this is about making the commitment to actually doing it.  That means committing to creating a successful online business and not stopping until you achieve it.

All the major things I’ve done in my life have been out of commitment, even my marriage, not always an easy thing to survive but my commitment kept me holding strong.

Things will go wrong, they always do, it’s not easy to accomplish great feats but if you’re committed you’ll achieve it.

Bill Cosby said something once that stuck with me.

“Anyone can dabble, but once you’ve made that commitment, your blood has that particular thing in it, and it’s very hard for anyone to stop you.”

Make the commitment and you’re a large part of the way there.

Have Faith in Yourself

Having faith in yourself isn’t always easy to come by. I still sometimes struggle with that.

But I have learned that you are what you think.  If you doubt yourself or tell yourself you can’t do something, you most certainly won’t.   It’s just a law of nature.

Success is about not allowing negative thoughts or ideas to enter your mind. I hear folks all the time say things like:

  • My ideas have already been done
  • There’s too much competition
  • What if I fail?
  • I’m not technical enough.
  • I’m not a salesman

Nonsense!

Your idea may already be out there, so what!  Do it better.

Too much competition?  On the web, competition is a good thing in fact we should embrace our completion.  They can inspire and educate us.

Never focus on failure. Instead focus on success which is the ability to go from one failure to another without loss of enthusiasm ;-)

You’re not technical? Take it from me, none of it is that hard. I’m not a techie either, but if I need to figure something out there’s plenty of free help on the web.  Heck, I’ll even install your blog for you — for free!

Not a salesman, eh?  Me neither. Don’t even like the thought of selling. I’m not a salesman but I can be a friend and I do listen. Making a sale is not simply telling someone to buy something. It’s about helping them make the buying decision.  That’s what true salesmanship in business is all about isn’t it?  I want to make a sale, of course but not at the expense of steering someone else wrong. That’s not what building a quality business is all about.

Choose Your Path

The web is full of opportunity, so much so that it can be overwhelming, but don’t let that stop you, look carefully at proven opportunities and weight them against your interests.

But beware of the opportunities that promise fast money with little effort or requirements of large payments.  Build your online business with proven success.  Things that come to mind are:

Once you choose a path for your online business.  Don’t lose your focus to the next shiny object that promises quicker riches.  Follow through from start to profit.

Write Down Your Goals

You can’t know where you’re going if you don’t know where you want to be and how you’re going to get there.

Your goals will spell this out for you.  What goals do you have for your business? What do you want to accomplish with your business?  What kind of income do you want it to achieve for you?

Having goals sets your business up with a structured foundation.  Of course your goals need to be realistic and achievable.

Create your schedule

Once your goals are established it’s time to start on the path to achieving them.  Based on your goals you’ll need a daily schedule designed to achieve those goals.

Without a monthly, daily or weekly schedule it’s almost impossible to accomplish daily tasks. I just recently had a bad experience with something as simple as my blog post schedule.

It was a great example of a bad example for how to get things done :-(

NEVER Let Go of Your Dreams

Independence Day is a clear sign that we have the freedom to dream and the means to make our dreams come true.

Sure it may be easy to continue on the path you’re on and maybe you’re scared to make a change, maybe you’re not sure you’ll succeed. But how will you know if you don’t try?

Declaring your own independence online with an online business is attainable.  But don’t neglect taking the proper steps to achieving this.

If building an online business of your own is  truly something you want, why not take the leap?

You only live once.

Blessings,

  1. Timely article Ms. Liz
I’ve been working on my independence for a while now but have been sitting at the point where I need to produce the content or walk away.

I think one of my fears is what I want to do is a passion of mine and if it fails, then that means I can’t do what a love for a living.
I guess the solution is to make sure it doesn’t fail but the fear that it could is paralyzing.

But, I have vacation next week so I’m going to forge ahead and start creating the content.
Hopefully I’ll be able to take the leap soon!

    • Hey Kevin

Fear of failure can be paralyzing, but it helps to keep success in your mind, picture it, really feel it. You already have a great website and we can certainly sense your passion so I think you’re on your way.

I love nature so I’ve enjoyed your site. Keep up the great work and good luck with your writing next week :-)

  3. Hope you had a great 4th of July Liz, I sure did. Enjoyed some time online and offline!

I love the advice you shared here because a good bit of the people I speak to really sound like they’re doing this more of a hobby yet they want the results of it being a full-time business. That’s kind of sad because you can’t do this half way.

I hope they’ll take your advice and just go for it because it’s so rewarding. We all fail, we all stumble and we all hit a brick wall. The thing that makes us different is that we don’t let that stop us. Move through it and we’ll learn from that and go a different direction that’s all. No big deal, it happens to us all.

Thanks for your wonderful words of advice and enjoy your weekend.

    • Hey Adrienne,

You’re so right! We all stumble, we all fall but then again that makes it that much more rewarding.

I love this saying: Success is the ability to go from one loss to another without loss of enthusiasm. That’s hard to do but in the end having the business and lifestyle that you want is so rewarding.

Hope you enjoyed your 4th Adrienne and didn’t’ work too hard :-)

  4. Hi Liz,

Yes, I have declared my own independence online and I have started to exercise my freedom to create my own business online. It was not easy. I was stuck in the “about to start” state for many, many months. But is over now.
I still don’t know many things: how to make sales, how to create products, how do do affiliate marketing, how to promote etc. However, I have learned a lot of things since I started … . I am confident I will learn the rest very soon.
Commitment, faith and personal path? You are right. You need this. Enormously. They come as time goes buy and you try and succeed new things.
Write down your goals? This is not easy. I tried many times. It will improve in time.
Create a schedule? Yes. it was difficult in the beginning. Now it’s easier.
What really matters is to “never let go of your dreams”. This is the key. I think perseverance creates some kind of channel through the ocean of events and you will walk through that channel and reach your goals. Perseverance is the real force that takes you to success

    Have a nice day

    • Hey Silviu,

Yes, patience and persistence has been my motto. I try never to let go of those two things. If you have those you can persevere. Then it’s just a matter of doing the basics like, creating goals, schedules, task lists, etc :-)

      Thanks for your great comments.

  5. Hi Liz,

Happy belated 4th of July. Sorry I got here so late.

This is a very interesting post relating to independence day. I have been committed to my independence for some time now, and I feel like I’m getting strong within.

I like the list of tips to really take a hold of our independence online. These tips are definitely what it takes to move forward with your online business. It took me a while for it all to sink in from when I first started, but now I know how important to execute these tips in your online business and of course in your life. You’ve showed this when you mentioned your marriage as an example.

    Thanks for sharing!

    • Hey Sherman,

Yes, you are committed and it’s easy to see that :-) The important part however is that you’re getting stronger within, I like that!

It does take awhile for it all to sink in. We learn so much going into our online businesses, so much that we didn’t know at first, but it’s all a learning experience and as long as we’re willing to learn, try and test there’s a whole world out there of business opportunities and experiences.

As always, thanks for your your great feedback Sherman.

      Blessings,
      Liz

  6. Hey Ms. Liz,

This is my first time here.
I love the topic – since freedom is something we all desire.

What you wrote about how we are what we think is so true – and the reason why freedom seems so elusive to so many of us.

For the same time and effort it takes to believe the negative/limiting thought, we do have the option to shift it. It takes awareness of how we look at things, but if we can teach ourselves to believe in restriction, we can most certainly shed light on it and make a different choice.

At one point, I had no clue as to how I would ever make writing a part of my life – and it took a knowing that all possibilities exist – in spite of not knowing the “how” that eventually opened up ways to make my desire a reality.

    Great post.

    • Hi Dana,

Welcome! So glad you stopped by :-)

I’ve put a lot of thought into why we sometimes we choose negative thinking, because you’re right; for the same effort it takes to be negative we have the choice to change it. I realize we are all products of our experiences and it’s hard sometimes to break out of those chains but the possibilities are there, we just need to give ourselves the freedom to explore them and then believe in ourselves.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments Dana and please come back and visit :-)

      Blesssings,
      Liz
