Part 3 of the Jimmy D. Brown Series – Ten Ways To Make Money Online
The third way Jimmy's free report talks about making money is by creating a membership site.
In our last lesson Jimmy talked about making money with affiliate marketing which is one of my favorite online business modesl and I promote it as a great way to may money online, however in this lesson Jimmy talks about selling your own products. I actually recommend using both strategies in your online business.
OK, maybe you're thinking, "…but isn't that why people choose affiliate marketing so they don't have to develop, sell and keep track of their own product?"
Yes, that is true, but there are significant benefits to selling your own products versus promoting affiliate products and I do both because they complement each other, however having your own products also allows you to develop your own customer base as opposed to giving them away to an affiliate marketer. You have your own customers that you can sell to and get repeat sales from.
Creating your own information products isn't hard, in fact small reports, guides and courses do very well online. I have on occasion created lengthy 100 page reports but I prefer selling small reports that are in the range of 15-25 pages. They're easier to create, more comprehensive and sell better at a lower price of about $10-$17.
If you can develop and have several products under your belt you will be able to tap into backend sales which is what Jimmy refers to when he talks about converting existing customers into repeat buyers.
Of course getting repeat sales means having not only one product but many products to sell. By now you're probably thinking that's way too much work and yes, creating a new product month after month is a lot of work, plus you have the added task of continually marketing to your list in order to achieve those backend sales, that's why creating a membership site is a great solution and here's why…
Having a membership site allows you to get paid month after month by providing information or services to your customers on an ongoing basis.
In a nutshell this is what Jimmy says about membership sites:
"Instead of selling a new product to your customers every month, you set up a membership site with a monthly free. Your customers are billed automatically. And all you have to do is update the site once a month. You can even outsource this task, meaning you're earning a residual income almost on autopilot!"
There are several ways to go about creating a membership site. You can create informational guides and courses that you offer your members each month and your members are billed monthly for that information. But offering information is just one way. You could also provide an expert forum. Load it up with private, expert information. Round up two or three expert moderators to help moderate it. If users get good information from it they will have no problem continuing their monthly service.
Jimmy offers a few more ideas in his report but overall, starting a membership site is one of the best profit centers you can add to your business.
Of course the hardest part will be developing your informational products beforehand. I don't recommend the burden of doing it all yourself, instead outsource it. My best argument for outsourcing is you will get good information from existing experts on the topic, this means you will get information that is generally beyond the scope of what you can find yourself in a reasonable amount of time. You'll pay a little more up front but the backend rewards are so much greater and you're a lot more likely to get it done.
But it's only fair to mention that membership sites do require monitoring and also involve some technical setup such as implementing a membership script and collecting payment. Internet marketers will tell you that membership sites are the way to go for generating high volumes of cash on a consistent basis, and I agree. If you take the time to plan and set it up carefully you can literally make thousands of dollars each and every month.
