I want you to think about this…
Do you ever talk yourself out of success? For example, as soon as you start to set success goals for yourself, do you get these nagging thoughts about how you aren't up to the task or how you simply aren't qualified to carry it through?
If this sounds familiar, you need to change the way you respond to your inner dialogue. That means instead of obeying your negative commands, you should be building self esteem and confidence by using positive self-talk to counter the negativity and overcome those self-defeating, destructive thoughts.
It can be exciting when we first set out with our goals, but for many people these thoughts turn into self-defeating thoughts that are full of self doubt. Those thoughts are devastating to your self esteem and confidence. Those are the kinds of things that will stop you in your tracks even before you can get started. It can be difficult to make the most of your life or your career if you are constantly talking yourself out of being a success.
The interesting about this is that many people don't even realize they have these self defeating thoughts. All we know is that we don't have the confidence to stick to our plans and reach our goals. But stay with me, there is a way to overcome this.
It's called using Positive self talk. That may sound pretty simple and basic, and it actually is, but so few people use it. Positive self-talk is an effective way to set goals and ensure that you stick to them, even if you've never been able to do it before.
The way this works is you have to decide what goal is important to you, and then you plan the steps for how you are going to attain this goal. When self-doubt starts to kick in, you will respond with your positive self talk, or in other words the affirmations that prove your success without surrendering to the negative pressure. I'd venture to say that since you're reading this article, it's clear that you're no quitter and you're certainly not a failure, so it's time to start believing in yourself!
Re-Programming Your Mind
This self talk, or positive affirmations, are basically positive statements that re-program your mind for the positive. The moment you have a self-defeating thought you will squash it with a motivating statement or thought.
So for example, a positive affirmation would sound like this: "I am worthy of great success," or "I see myself in the winner's circle", "I am capable of becoming wealthy".
What this does is replace negativity with thoughts that will help you move toward your goals instead of further away from them.
You may not be aware of the severity of the negative dialogue currently going on within your mind but once you begin using positive self-talk, you will suddenly be able to realize that you have been sabotaging the goals you set for yourself from the minute that you make them. This process can be eye-opening, you'll be able to see exactly how much this inner conversation has been interfering with your life.
Through positive self-talk you will be able to easily set long and short-term goals for yourself. And when you use affirmations, you'll have the tools to help you push yourself further than you ever have before. Learning to quiet your negativity with positive thoughts can be monumental toward setting and attaining your future goals with ease.
If you're struggling with your success either in your business or in your personal life, listen to this video by Brian Tracy about building self esteem and confidence. You'll not only find out about how to achieve your goals but how to achieve what you want out of life, no matter what it is.

This is really a great post Liz! Regarding affirmations…I would like to make one small point, if I may.
Affirmations must preferably be “in the Now!”…for example your “I am worthy of great success” should rather be – “I am a great success”, The “I am capable of becoming wealthy” should rather be “Wealth & abundance is mine now” (which is one of my daily affirmations).
Affirmations is all about creating a feeling of strong positivity within you. It is the feelings within you, the way you are feeling at any given moment, that will determine your future – this is how metaphysics & particularly the Law of Attraction, work.
You have to repeat your affirmations in a strong feeling of genuine positivity & belief, about ten times each affirmation per session will do. You have to feel that what you are affirming is being experienced by you RIGHT NOW, as opposed to it still going to happen. It is this expectation that allows a small chip to appear in your armour, that is when the self-doubt sets in.
To your success,
Michael

Liz I haven’t been in the biz for quite ten years but I can tell you this I wouldn’t have made this long without the proper mindset. Yes we do need to monitor self talk very crucial if we are to be effective. We also need to monitor how we feel this is the best gauge to me about where our belief is at. If we have to scale down a goal for a bit I think that’s fine. If you feel good that means it’s really believable and you will achieve much faster then when you get there set your sights higher.

Hey Michael, great points, I can tell you’ve done this before LOL! Thanks for the clarification, the here and now is really important, a very good point to stress
Steve, yes we do need to constantly monitor how we feel. It’s so important to be in the positive and believe in ourselves, but that’s tough for a lot of people. We’re all a product of our life experiences and we’ve all had bad ones, unfortunately we often hang on to the negative and breaking out of that mindset can be hard.
That’s when we have to become our own ‘cheerleader’ so to speak. I hope no one ever videos my day in the office, it would be pretty funny, I talk to myself all the time, positively of course
Hi Liz- you hit the nail on the head – self talk-self concept/belief and attitude is essential to any sustainable success.
Big fan of Brian Tracy- prefer his audios though!! His book Maximum Achievement is a classic – no hype all great content
Continued success

Hi Elizabeth,
we all have negative self-talk from time to time. The sooner we realize that this self-talk has nothing got to do with reality, the better. The single most important thing in order to start positive self-talk is in my opinion not to start beating oneself up for once again being guilty of negative self-talk. It all starts with loving, yes loving us even with these negative little voices. This is for me the best way of managing the turn-around because my subconscious mind is open enough then for positive affirmations. Wonderful suggestions btw, thank you for that.
Take care
Oliver
Hi Liz,
This is my first time here. Great looking blog!
Positive self-talk is very important. Whatever we think of ourselves can make or break us. It’s like “The Little Engine That Could.” …. I think I can. I think I can. I KNOW I can.
Somewhere I read … “Success comes in CANS” … and we ourselves should be the first ones to encourage ourselves.
Have an awesome day!

If you don’t believe you can be successful, no one else will.
Your prospects won’t for sure.
I agree with you, Liz – this is a mandatory step for any online marketer.
Great post, definitely looks like you took your time with it.
Best,

Hey Elizabeth
I agree with Kiaran above, Brian Tracy’s Maximum Achievement is a great read.
As Oliver states, we all have those negative thoughts but it comes down to how we deal with them. Some quit and give up while others take up the challenge.
Thanks Liz.

Great post, Liz! You are so right: self-belief is very important in order to succeed. Positive self-talk is critical as your success starts with your positive mindset. See yourself as successful even before you get there and your actions will show that you truly are.
All the best,
Mavis Nong
I agree that self esteem is needed to improve ones self confidence. Thanks for sharing this information, helping yourself to get acquainted with things will probably lead you to something profitable.
It has to be you. Sadly no-one will think for you, so you have to think for yourself and think positively.
So true David. It all comes from within YOU. That can be tough for some people. I’m a psychology major and enthusiast and I’ve been intrigued by how people lose self esteem and become negative influences for themselves. But regardless of how someone gets that way, it’s tough to break out of, but not impossible
