How Do You Get More Website Traffic?

more website trafficThere are lots of ways to increase website traffic, there are tons of traffic secrets and free website traffic strategies that anyone can use, things like using articles, email marketing, website optimization, press releases, social interaction.

The problem with getting increased website traffic is there are more options than we can implement so as with anything online the name of the game is to test. Try as many strategies as you can and determine which ones work the best for you.  Use it until it no longer works, and then try something else.

But what if someone just starting out were to ask you what the best way was to get more targeted website traffic to their site when they are getting no traffic at all — what would you say?

I know this would probably depend on your application and perhaps the type of person you are. For example, if you are great in front of a camera you probably use video, if you are sort of a social butterfly you probably use social marketing and get great response.  Articles might do the trick if you’re a writer.  If you have a budget you might say that pay-per-click advertising worked well.   But on the other hand, maybe you’ve tried just about every website traffic generation method you could think of and still haven’t seen the kind of traffic you need.

Since website traffic is the life blood of any online business, everyone has to do something to get as much of it as they can so as to keep business thriving, so what have you done?  What is your best traffic strategy and what would you recommend or maybe not recommend?

Any thoughts?

I have to say that I was surprised at the amount of traffic I’ve been getting from Twitter that past few months (and without even really trying!)

Article marketing hasn’t really gotten me a lot traffic, but it did help build backlinks, which in turn helped with SERP results, so in a round about way it really did help with traffic.

    Hey Loretta,

How are you? Glad to see you here! I kind of agree, article marketing isn’t what it use to be, although like you say, it does help create some backlinks but its traffic generating ability has waned a bit. That may not be true for everyone but I’ve seen a difference. I like Twitter but I think I’m just not consistent enough with it, plus I’m a little conflicted about the following ‘everyone‘ concept. There’s an interesting article on ‘Why you should follow everyone who follows you‘ that covers that very topic. If you’re conflicted it may help to read it. Maybe someone else can shed some light on that one.

    Huge question Liz!

Looking at the traffic stats for my blog I get most traffic from MSN and then Google and then along way down to twitter, a forum I post at and another of my blogs.

I have not done a great deal of article marketing but my view is that you really have to go to town with it to get big results.

Lots of articles and wide syndication

But you’re dead right it really does depend on your own skills and budget. But this is the most important business activity there is because without traffic or rather targeted traffic you don’t have a business
