If your web site isn't making you money there may be several reasons and we'll get to that in a minute, however there are 3 excellent strategies that you should be doing right now. These are PPC advertising, article marketing and social networking.
Pay-per-click advertising (PPC) is by far the fastest way to begin drawing traffic to your site immediately, however if you're not making much money with your site it stands to reason there's not much in the budget for PPC advertising, so your next best options are writing and distributing articles and making the rounds on the social scene with sites like facebook, twitter and Bebo. This should also include leaving significant comments on relevant forums and blogs.
Once you begin an active routine doing the above you will begin to notice more and more traffic coming into your site and sales should begin to pick up. If things still seem a bit sluggish here are few common problems that could be holding you back:
Poor Site Design
You may be getting visitors to your site but they will quickly hit the 'back button' if they can't easily navigate your site because it's too busy, cluttered with ads or they simply can't find what they are looking for. Poor organization and needless distractions will turn them away every time. Have fresh eyes look at your site and offer criticism. Our marketing forum is a great place to get others to offer feedback on your site design.
You can achieve good basic website design from Wordpress Themes or website builders such as Sitebuildit or Xsitepro.
Lack of Visitor Trust
One of my favorite online mentors and marketers, Dr. Ken Evoy, has always taught that you must pre-sell your visitors before they will buy.
What this means is that your visitors need to trust you before anything else. Simply expecting them to take your word for how great a product or service is won't work. You need to 'romance' them, so to speak. Let them get to know you and your business by offering lots of useful, worthwhile information. This can include tips, strategies or even information that will take them to other online resources.
Give your visitors a reason to think of your site as an authority and a trusted resource.
Lost Visitors
Whether you are getting 10 visitors or 1000 visitors, don't let them get away! Every page of your website MUST have an opt-in box to capture email addresses. This is how you make sales. If a visitor shows interest by signing up, you've just created an excellent opportunity to take them the rest of the way to a sale. With no follow-up your opportunity is lost forever.
Setting up an autoresponder to capture emails takes only a few minutes. A good autoresponder gives you everything you need including how to set up your capture form. Your next step will be to set up a series of emails with impressive, powerful information. Include product specials when you have them, tips and tricks they will appreciate. The beauty of an autoresponder series is that you do it once and forget about it. It automatically sends your series to every visitor.
Email Marketing is about establishing consistent communications with your visitors, but it also builds relationships. Once you put this strategy into effect your sales will skyrocket. Just remember, letting your visitors get away is a potential sale that is lost forever.
Bad Copy
Does your copy have poor grammar, spelling errors or broken links? These copywriting errors scream unprofessionalism and nothing sends visitors away faster. Never place anything on your site without carefully reading it, proofing it and reading it again. If your spelling and grammar look ok be sure it also makes logical sense and flows smoothly.
Your copy also needs to effectively describe your product and its benefits. Features are important but if a feature fails to emphasize a benefit, the importance is lost. You must accurately express through the benefits how your offer can make a difference in your viewer’s life.
Evaluate your copy carefully and make sure it is clear, compelling and doesn't ramble or lecture. Carefully use font colors and bolding. Keep your focus on your visitor, not on you.
There are lots of ways on how to make money with your web site, however examining your site design, your copy and capturing your visitors attention is a great place to start if your site in not currently making you money.
